Introduction to Media coursework

My initial research involved investigating local radio stations and the types of local radio stations. There are ILR (independent local radio stations) and publicly funded BBC radio stations and are funded by TV licenses. ILR are dependent on advertising.

Conventions of TV Dramas

The characters are usually your average everyday people and there is usually a wide variety of different cultures and races and there is often a gay character at some point. Their accents are often regional and suit the location that the soap is based in.

Common storyline themes include weddings, murder, affairs, kidnapping, friends or family fall outs and just a general theme of deception. Characters will never be happy and when they are, it can be guaranteed that it won't be for long. Storylines will always be believable but never realistic giving the viewers the impression that it could happen.

U Be Dead

U Be Dead was a two hour ITV drama based on a true story.

It's 2002 and Dr Jan Falkowski and Debra Pemberton are a couple living in Poole. Their wedding is not too far away and everything seems to be going very smoothly, until they start recieving abusive text messages from a mysterious stalker who claims to be in love with Dr Falkowski. As the story progresses, cracks in Jan and Debra's relationship begin to form and Jan ends up having an affair and leaves his fiancée shortly after a false wedding day organised by the police intended to lure and catch the stalker. The stalker, who turns out to be a former patient's girlfriend, Maria Marchese, accuses the doctor of drugging and raping her. The remainder of the story is focused on the trial and her eventual conviction. She is currently in jail and is eligible for bail in 2012
